Complete Works of William Shakespeare – Abridged

Based at his current rate, if Damian lives to the average age of the Australian male he will have performed in 21 productions of The Complete Works – Abridged.

Damian was first cast in the play for the 2003-04 Sydney Opera House season alongside Darren Gilshenan and Erik Thompson and in 2013 he will perform the show for 5th time on the State Theatre SA national tour.

TCWOWSA, was written by Singer, Long and Winfield, the founding members of The Reduced Shakespeare Company and was first performed at the 1987 Edinburgh Fringe. It subsequently went on to a 9 year run at London’s Criterion Theatre and is now one of the worlds most popular plays.

The play features 3 actors who try to take on the seemingly impossible task of condensing Shakespeare’s entire canon into one show. Othello is done as a rap, the history plays combined into a football match and Coriolanus is … mentioned. The 3 roles are typically The Clown, The Serious Actor and The Common Man. Damian, playing the latter role, managed to inveigle the use of a leaf blower, a motorised scooter and peacock codpiece into his most recent production. A mechanised Clydesdale and a forklift are mooted for the 2013 tour.
